Development Core

In addition to relying on established approaches, AIDS researchers must innovate and adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, while also cultivating the next generation of rigorously trained researchers. The Development Core helps the HIV Center meet this need by providing an organizational home to an array of activities designed to enhance the capacity of HIV Center investigators to conduct effective and innovative research. The Core provides focused support to junior investigators and postdoctoral fellows as well as to more senior investigators who are embarking in new research directions. The ever-growing impact of AIDS on diverse ethnic and racial groups in the US and throughout the developing world demands multicultural and intercultural awareness and sensitivity at all levels of the research process, which the Core also facilitates. In addition, given the rapidly changing and still incompletely understood role of emerging information technology (IT) in HIV research and prevention, the Core places an emphasis on maximizing the potentials – while avoiding the pitfalls – of the Internet and other recent technological breakthroughs in conducting social science research.

The Development Core seeks to improve the ability of HIV Center investigators, particularly those early in their career development, to initiate new programs of scientific investigation, produce scholarly publications, and address multi- and inter-cultural issues in research.  It also assures assure integration of postdoctoral fellows and other trainees into the HIV Center, giving attention to access to Center Cores, faculty, and other resources. And the Core enhances the capacity of HIV Center investigators to employ state-of-the-art information technology for data collection, outreach, and intervention and for scientific cooperation to advance the HIV Center's social and behavioral science research agenda.

Access to Development Core programs and services is limited to Investigators who have an affiliation with the HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies, particularly junior investigators. Please click on the menu to the left to read about services and activities.

Consultations
