IMPLEMENTATION SCIENCE AND HEALTH OUTCOMES (ISHO) CORE

The Implementation Science and Health Outcomes (ISHO) Core address the HIV Center theme, The Science of Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic (EtE): Efficacy to Effectiveness at Scale, by catalyzing innovative Implementation Science research that identifies and tests strategies to optimize “real-world” uptake and impact of effective HIV prevention and care continua interventions at scale. The ISHO core seeks to

To stimulate new research and collaborations to improve key outcomes along the HIV prevention and care continua, by
- Using an innovative affinity group model for implementing Scientific Work Groups (SWGs) that provide mentoring and foster collaborations in IS research for early stage as well as established investigators;
- Providing expert consultation on IS conceptual frameworks, strategies, and research study designs for adaptation, sustainable implementation, dissemination, and scale-up of evidence-based interventions by organizations, communities, and health systems.
To advance new IS research to prevent or reduce HIV-related health disparities that are driven by suboptimal intervention implementation or by psychiatric and other comorbidities, including studies that
- Address multi-level barriers to uptake of and sustained engagement in evidence-based HIV prevention, treatment, and care interventions among vulnerable populations and in critical geographic areas and/or practice settings; and
- Examine the impact of integrating evidence-based screening, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness, substance use, and other co-morbidities in order meet the meet the challenge of incorporating individualized or differentiated care needs into HIV prevention and care programs.
To promote the use of health policy analysis, policy modeling, and economic evaluation to bridge the evidence-practice and evidence-policy gaps that drive suboptimal population-based implementation (e.g., roll-out and scale-up) and disparities.
