Judith Godwin Rabkin, Ph.D., M.P.H., is Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry at Columbia University. Since 1994, she also has been Adjunct Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry at Cornell University Medical College. Her academic training was in clinical psychology and epidemiology, and she has worked as a research scientist in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University for over 30 years, specializing in mood disorders.

Dr. Rabkin has been engaged in HIV-related research since 1989. This includes longitudinal cohort studies of HIV-positive and HIV-negative gay men, and HIV-positive and HIV-negative intravenous drug using men and women conducted at the HIV Center and also at Cornell. She has studied factors associated with quality of living and dying in terminally ill patients with cancer and ALS. She also has conducted clinical trials of antidepressants, testosterone, DHEA, and modafinil (Provigil) to treat depression and related symptoms such as fatigue. Her new work combines medication for fatigue (armodafinil) and a behavioral intervention to facilitate return to work or enrollment in vocational classes, for HIV+ adults whose goal of employment is impeded by fatigue.
