Overview Publications Professional Background

Peter Muennig, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and a member of the Ethics Core at the HIV Center. His research is focused on reducing socioeconomic disparities via more efficient use of societal resources, providing policymakers with evidence upon which to make decisions, and novel scientific approaches to understanding the mechanisms underlying disparities. He has worked as a consultant for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Canadian government on cost-effectiveness analyses for the prevention and control of infectious disease in immigrant and refugee populations. He has also consulted for foundations and both the Chilean and Canadian governments. He has written two textbooks on cost-effectiveness analysis, his research in the academic literature has been cited hundreds of times, and has received multiple awards in community service and minority health. His primary areas of interest are health policy and socio-economic disparities. To put this research into practice, he co-directs a non-governmental organization geared toward reducing infectious disease and improving educational opportunities among refugees.
