Robert H. Remien, Ph.D., is a Research Scientist at the HIV Center and Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology (in Psychiatry) Columbia University. He received his master's degree in Psychology and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The New School for Social Research in New York City.

An investigator in the HIV Center from its beginnings, he has collaborated on studies of psychopathology, psychoimmunology, coping and adaptation, sexual risk behavior, and long-term survival with HIV among gay men and male and female injected drug users. Currently his research focuses on mental health, sexual risk behavior, and adherence interventions for HIV serodiscordant couples; HIV-infected men and women; changes in attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors associated with HIV medical treatment advances in both infected and uninfected individuals; HIV testing behaviors; and the development of behavioral interventions for people with acute HIV infection.

Dr. Remien is Director of the HIV Center's Community Collaboration Core and clinical supervisor to psychiatric residents in training. Recently, he has served as Chair for the New York State Psychological Association's Task Force on AIDS, a member of the New York City's Department of Health Prevention Planning Group, and senior faculty for the American Psychological Association's HIV training program for psychologists. He also maintains a part-time private practice in clinical psychology in Manhattan.
