William Brown III, PhD, DrPH, is a Research Scientist at the HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies at the New York Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University. Concurrently, he is a working towards his PhD in Biomedical Informatics in Columbia University´s College of Physicians & Surgeons. He received his Master´s in Human Sexuality Studies from San Francisco State University, his Doctorate in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, and conducted his NIH T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies. Prior to his postdoctoral training, Dr. Brown was the eCommunications Specialist at UC Berkeley's Health Research for Action center, a research associate at the Center for Research on Adolescent Health and Development at the Public Health Institute, and research coordinator at the Health and Human Sexuality Lab at the University of Utah.

Dr. Brown´s research interests focus on biomedical informatics with a focus on translational research and applying New Media technology -particularly mHealth, social media, and modes of computer-mediated communications- to HIV prevention, research, intervention, and treatment adherence. His populations of interest are African-American MSM, and ethnic and/or sexual minority youth. He is currently working on applying mobile technologies in HIV clinical trials, and developing theoretical models for New Media based sexual health management and public health practice.
