Karen McKinnon, MA, has been conducting research and training about the mental health aspects of HIV for over 35 years. Her work as a Research Scientist has been primarily with people with serious mental illness, mapping rates of HIV in New York City and developing interventions that reduce HIV risk and promote sexual health. In addition to conducting NIMH-funded research in New York and Brazil, she has led Ending the HIV Epidemic research focused on implementation science approaches to HIV and behavioral health service integration.

As Director of Columbia University HIV Behavioral Health Training, a component of the Northeast/Caribbean AIDS Education and Training Center, Ms McKinnon trains HIV care teams about the intersection of behavioral health and HIV and how to improve health outcomes for both conditions.
